In honor of the NBA All-Star weekend, this is DJ D Sharp’s episode of INTERVAL, filmed at the Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors, and the site of this year’s festivities. D was named the official All-Star game DJ, which is totally mind blowing and well deserved.

You might know D Sharp from his work with Barack Obama, Goapele, Lauryn Hill, Lyrics Born, Macarthur Maze, and of course the Golden State Warriors. I would go as far as saying (and I know I’m not alone on this) that D Sharp is the best professional sports DJ in the game. No shade to anyone else. When you’re operating at that level, you’re good…very good…but D is great.

Walking through the arena with him, I got to witness how the fans really love and appreciate what he brings to Chase Center every night. He’s been the Warriors’ DJ for well over a decade, dating back to when they played in Oakland - waaaay before the championships. And it goes beyond the court, he’s a staple with Steph Curry’s foundation Eat Learn Play.

This is a great pre All-Star game interview on ABC7:

Nowadays, there’s a DJ at every NBA, NFL, MLB, NCAA, NHL, and MLS game. But I have to believe that D Sharp and his predecessor DJ Solomon (RIP) were among the first, if not THE first, to do it.

I met D in 2004 and we teamed up for a 2x4 set (2 DJ’s on 4 turntables) that we toured all throughout Europe. This was before cell phone cameras, so unfortunately there’s zero footage of this. But I can say with 100% certainty - we killed it.

He’s one of the best DJ’s I know, period, hands down, end of story (and I know a lot of DJs).

Enjoy!
