Josh Johnson.
Comedian, Emmy nominated writer, The Daily Show correspondent, and podcast host is my next guest on INTERVAL. You’ve likely seen his standup sets where he breaks down the Kendrick/Drake beef, or why Jonathan Majors shouldn’t do interviews…or Diddy 😳 He releases full shows on his YouTube channel at an unprecedented rate, has specials on Comedy Central and Peacock, AND puts out albums because yeah, he writes and produces music too. It’s almost not fair how talented he is.
He’s currently on his nationwide tour “Flowers”, along with the hilarious Logan Nielsen…if they come to your town, you should go to a show; I cannot recommend it enough.
Whether you’re a touring comedian, actor, or musician, backstage is a sacred place. It’s where you spend your final “normal” moments of the day before walking on stage and becoming the center of the universe. Some people like to keep it chill, even take naps. Some people like to pack the room and listen to loud music. I find myself getting quieter as showtime approaches, to the point where I don’t talk 15 minutes before I walk on stage.
Josh and Logan have been friends for years, so they’re very much synced up when it comes to their pre-show rhythm. On the surface, you wouldn’t be able to tell they were about to rock a sold out theater. But if you sit with this, you can sense the anticipation in the room.
Josh is very much, “in the zone”, as they say. I’m lucky to call him a friend, collaborator, and now featured guest on INTERVAL.
Enjoy.
